BAY Winds is Tampa Bay’s ultimate destination for talented young musicians who are ready to take their musical journey to the next level. Serving students from Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Hernando counties, BAY Winds gives aspiring musicians the opportunity to perform alongside some of the area’s most motivated and gifted peers, tackling advanced, collegiate-level music in a dynamic, challenging environment.
Founded in 2011 by Dr. Matthew McCutchen and The Florida Wind Band, BAY Winds continues to inspire and shape the future of music in our community, providing exceptional performance opportunities for intermediate and advanced middle and high school students. Our tiered wind ensembles are a place where young musicians can grow, challenge themselves, and experience the thrill of making music at the highest level.
Membership in BAY Winds is by audition, with all ensembles rehearsing on Monday evenings each spring at the USF School of Music. Past guest conductors have included the likes of John Carmichael, Samuel Hazo, Michael Sweeney, Quincy Hilliard, Les Hicken, and Dr. Matthew McCutchen, Florida Wind Band’s Artistic Director & Conductor.
