BAY Winds

The Florida Wind Band proudly supports furthering music education opportunities for school-aged musicians in addition to providing Tampa-area audiences the opportunity to hear outstanding music performed by some of the area's top professional and semi-professional musicians, the Florida Wind Band organization also includes two bands for the area's top middle and high school musicians - BAY Winds and JBAY.

In the spring of 2023 Bay Area Youth (BAY) Winds will celebrate its 12th year of providing an outlet for outstanding high school students from Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and Hernando counties to perform collegiate-level music with equally talented and motivated peers. Membership in BAY Winds is by audition only. The band rehearses on Monday evenings in the spring at the USF School of Music. Notable guest conductors have included John Carmichael, Samuel Hazo, Michael Sweeney, Quincy Hilliard, and Les Hicken. BAY Winds is conducted by Dr. Matthew McCutchen, USF's Director of Bands.

Junior BAY Winds (JBAY) looks forward to returning from a Covid-induced hiatus in the spring of 2023. This terrific ensemble is open by audition to middle school students in the surrounding counties. Rehearsal times, and the conductor will be announced soon.
